A fire erupted this afternoon at a historic building in the area/district. The blaze rapidly spread through the edifice, causing significant damage and ultimately/completely destroying it. Firefighters responded to calls within minutes and fought valiantly against the flames, but the fire proved too powerful/they were unable to contain the blaze.
